The Festival Z aims to be an open, transparent, and accessible space. That is why each year we choose the projects that will be part of the festival through an open call, from which we make a joint selection: the Z team chooses the participants for the first category, while an independent commission made up of young professionals from the performing arts is responsible for choosing the projects for the second and third categories. The three categories of participation are:
Exhibition modality
For finished projects. You will present your finished piece within the festival programme.
Residence and showcase modality
For projects in an advanced stage of creation. You will be able to work in the piece in the spaces of the Festival Z and you will make a small exhibition as an opening of the creative process.
SUB30 residence
For shows in the creation process whose primary stage language is not text. You will be able to take part in a residency at the CINE space in Sineu (Mallorca) and present your piece at the Ciclop Visual Theatre Festival.
Procrea open call
For performing arts projects that are in the research, creation, or production phase. You will receive financial support, a residency at La Cremallera, and one year of guidance from Procrea, and you will give a public showcase of the process at Festival Z.
Projects presentation modality
For shows in pre-production phase. You will be able to explain your embryonic idea to performing arts professionals from all over Catalonia, from whom you will be able to obtain support, advice and, if necessary, collaborations to carry out the project.

Festival Z, a gateway to the Emerging Artists Program with El Canal
The companies selected in the Residence and Showcase and Projects Presentation modalities automatically enter the selection process for the Emerging Artists Program – Stage Boost at El Canal.
Up to two companies will be able to access this program, which offers financial support, residency spaces, and professional support to develop the project and boost their career. No additional application is required.
