Chelmsford Sunday/Staffordshire Saturday:

V Festival is extraordinary in that, it was the first event ever to be held, at two sites at the same time. When, to begin with, the festival took its moniker from the year which it was held.`V98`, `V97`. As it had done, ever since it the first festival, `V96`.

But then, since 2003, the V festival has been known, simply, as V. With no year in the title.

The concept for V came about in 1995. When Jarvis Cocker, the lead singer of Pulp, stated how much he would love to play at two outdoor venues in two days. The promoters then put the plan into action, and held the gig at Victoria Park, Warrington ad Hyland Parks, giving fans in both the North and South of England a chance to see the band.

Then they added other acts on the bill and a second day, and let people camp out at the event, over the weekend.

Then, in 1999, the Northern half of the festival was then moved, to Weston Park, in Staffordshire. Where it has remained to this day.

The V stands for Virgin. Richard Branson’s Virgin Mobile being the sponsor of the event. With Virgin radio as its official station.

It is traditionally held on the second last weekend of August. Its two day festival format, low queuing times and high level of organisation has won the event a large, loyal following.

Although, most famously associated with rock music, V Festival features a wide range of musical styles. British and International artists ,and is not afraid to book the odd pop singer, such as Mel. C., Dido and N.E.R.D. Whom have all performed at the festival.

Scheduled to appear at this years V, on the 16th and 17th of August, include Muse, The Stereophonics and The Kooks. Among others.

V Festival Tickets went on sale on March 7th 2008, at 10am,and sold out in an hour and a half.

Extra tickets, for both venues, went on sale on June 26th, at 10am.
