Reading & Leeds Asked Libertines To Reform

Following Led Zeppelin and Blur, the run of bands re uniting may continue if the organizers of the Reading And Leeds Festivals have their way. Now that they have asked The Libertines to get back together and play there. It has been reported by NME magazine.

It is believed that Festival Republic, who stage the event, offered controversial lead singer Peter Doherty and fellow band member Carl Barat the headline spot at the Reading and Leeds Festivals this summer. However,unfortunately for fans,it turns out that it isn’t going to happen, after they refused.

It was apparently because Barat didn’t want to see his old band reunite if it wasn’t for the right reasons.

Doherty commented that In an interview with the magazine published tomorrow, the front man says, “We had some ridiculous offers to headline Reading.” Doherty said ” Like £2 million to headline this festival, £1 million to headline that festival. I said, ‘Why don’t we just do it? Let’s get the old band back together.”

“He (Barat) said, ‘We have to be friends, we can’t just do it for the money’.”he added.

“I said, ‘OK, let’s be friends! Friends who go and make lots of money’, because I haven’t got any money and I know he’s skint. He said I had to go and see an energy consultant, some new age guru who is going to measure my energy levels and see if I’m surrounded by darkness. If I am I’m not allowed to go near Carl because I’ll tap into his good energy and I’ll sap all the good energy and bring nothing but darkness into his life.”

It is thought that Festival Republic are still on the look out for acts to headline Reading and Leeds. US rockers Green Day were said to be in the frame. Although that may be just a rumour.

In fact, there are no artists as yet confirmed for this years festival, due to be held over the weekend of Friday 28th to Sunday 30th August.

Little Johns Farm, Richfield Avenue at Reading in Berkshire will be the location of the Reading Festival. The Leeds Festival, on the other hand, is being staged at Bramham Park, Leeds, in West Yorkshire.
