It has just been announced that legendary Oscar nominated Canadian artist Neil Young will be playing this years Isle of Wight festival.

He will be the headliner on the Sunday night in an exclusive appearance.

A ground breaking and highly influential musician, Young has been going for over four decades now. A noted solo artist, he has experimented with many different musical styles over the years, from swing, blues and jazz to rockabilly and even electronic.

Neil Young has also branched off into the movie industry. He received an Academy Award nomination for his song from the Tom Hanks movie `Philadelphia (losing to Bruce Springsteen for his track from the same film). However, it is a little known fact that Young himself has actually directed many movies under an assumed name ( Bernard Shakey), such as `Rust Never Sleeps` and `Human Highway`. In 2008, he was at the helm of CSNY Déjà Vu, a documentary about his old band Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, as they set off on their 2006 Freedom of Speech tour.

The film closed Robert Redford’s 2008 Sundance Film Festival and is available on DVD.

Neil Young will now be playing at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival to mark his return to country music with the release of his brand new 2009 record ‘Fork in the Road.

, “I have tried every year since we restarted the event to book Neil Young.,” says Isle of Wight Festival organiser John Giddings.

“His music is part of my life and has inspired generations ever since. I’m sure that his performance will be talked about for years to come.

Neil Young will be accompanying other confirmed acts like Friday headliners The Prodigy. With The Ting Tings, Pendulum and Basement Jaxx set to perform on the same day.

Saturday will feature Razorlight and The Stereophonices sharing the headlining spot.

With Sunday night seeing The Charlatans headline as well as curate the Big Top.

The Isle of Wight Festival will go ahead at Seaclose Park, Newport, Isle of Wight,on the weekend of Friday 12th until Sunday 14th June 2009.

Event passes will set you back £140 for an adult ticket with camping which includes entertainment in the campsite on Thursday night, It will also be £70 for a child ticket (12 years and under). The price of an adult ticket without camping is £120 and £60 for children (12 years and under).

The festival boasts an excellent main stage set in a natural amphitheatre. It will highlight indie and rock bands, new unsigned acts and legendary recording artists.
