One of Europe’s major new music festivals of the last few years will unfortunately not be returning next summer.
Organizers have announced been announced that Live at Loch Lomond,an event which has taken place, in the summertime, on the shores of Loch Lomond in Scotland in both 2007 and 2008, shall not be returning in 2009. It has been reported in the Scottish Sunday Mail newspaper (here) that Ricky Magowan, the festivals promoter, has spoken of his desire to bring the festival back to Balloch at another time. However, for the moment, e intends to prioritize and move ahead with his latest project.
The inauguration of a brand new dance music festival which will see him go back to the world of techno and clubland where he got his start.
: “Live At Loch Lomond 2009 is not happening due to a number of factors, from practical issues at the site over the last two years to the credit crunch.”Mr Magowan has stated in the Sunday Mail.“Although the site is picturesque, it wasn’t practical for our event, not to mention two years of downpours on a location at the bottom of a hill by a loch. Unfortunately, being a national park, we had to restore the grass after the event to get the area back to its original condition, which cost £100,000. We weren’t allowed vehicle movement on site due to health and safety concerns so we had to boat all artists from Cameron House to backstage – which they loved but cost us £15,000 per event.”
He added that ” Over the two years we spent around £2.5million on Live at Loch Lomond. With costs like this we were really up against it and in the current climate it would be simply impossible to make money without charging ridiculous prices. We are hugely disappointed we won’t be back next year as the local community, police and council were all great to work with. But we hope to return to the site at a later date with a different format”.
The 2008 Live at Loch Lomond Festival boasted artists such as Ocean Colour Scene ,The Sex Pistols, Groove Armada and Happy Mondays, among others.
However, despite the cancellation of next years event, Ricky Magowan has no plans to fade away from the music festival scene. In fact, quite the opposite. He plans to add to it. With the opening in 2009 of the EH1 dance festival. Which is due to take place over the weekend of Friday 14th of August through Saturday the 15th to Sunday the 16th of August, at the Showground in Ingliston, Edinburgh.
The festival will herald the birthdays of Colours and Streetrave, pseudonyms under which Ricky has organised dance music events all over Scotland for twenty years. Their anniversaries will coincide with the arrival of EH1.
So there’s going to be a party.
Therefore, despite the cancellation of Live At Loch Lomond, there are still plenty of events to look forward to over the coming twelve months. From T in The Park Rock Ness, T in the Park, and Connect among others are still on schedule next year as usual.
If there are any change in these circumstances though, then we shall pass it along.
