It has been announced that the recently reformed Blur are set to headline the Oxegen Music Festival, in Ireland, this summer.

The band, made up of Damon Albarn, Alex James Graham Coxon and James Rowntree and Alex James, were leading lights of the Britpop movement in the 1990s. They released such anthems as ‘She’s So High’, `There’s No Other Way’ and `Parklife. The title track of their third studio album which incredibly, at the height of their success, stayed in the charts for almost two years.

The band eventually parted ways to work on their own projects. (Albarn had a hit with his band The Good, The Bad And The Queen and virtual act Gorillaz).

However, Blur are back with a vengeance. They have lined up two shows at the Hyde Park in London, that were all sold minutes after the tickets coming out.

Then,on top of all that, Blur will now play Oxegen. It will be their only Irish gig of 2009. They will be part of a line up that so far boasts such artisis as Snow Patrol, Kings Of Leon, Katy Perry, Bloc Party and The Script.

Oxegen will take place on Friday 10th to Sunday 12th July, at Punchestown Racecourse, in Naas, Co Kildare.

The ‘Early Bird’ ticket offer has now closed. There are no tickets available for Oxegen at the moment.

They will go on sale to the general public on Friday 6th March 2009 at 8am.
